The PalmerSport event is part of MotorSport Vision’s (MSV) wide range of motorsport businesses - it also owns five race circuits in the UK including Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Oulton Park, and has formed a new partnership with Hyundai UK for the supply of vital race support vehicles. Heading that line-up is the IONIQ 5 N, which MSV has selected to be the high-performance Safety Car at all its circuits.
The IONIQ 5 N has earned widespread acclaim by the UK motoring media for its ground-breaking technology and performance. On driving it, Jonathan Palmer could see why:
“I first drove the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N when it was selected to be one of Autocar magazine’s finalists for their Britain’s Best Driver’s Car test at MSV’s Cadwell Park circuit. With an incredible 600 bhp, performance is monstrous – 0 to 60mph in 3.5 seconds, 0 to 100mph in just 7.8. But what astonished me most was the incredible transformation when you hit the N button – the car suddenly becomes a rorty turbo petrol engined car – or at least that’s the way it sounds and feels! It now has 8 gears and will hit the 8000rpm rev limiter if you don’t change up with a flick of the paddle – which you need to do very quickly, time and again. And then it blips on the downchange as you slow. Incredible, and hugely exhilarating.
“Until the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N I have never actually enjoyed driving a battery electric car. Sure they’ve been quick – but just not involving. The 5 N changes all that. It’s brilliantly engineered, and it’s unique. The world is increasingly moving towards an electric future and the Hyundai is such a phenomenal step that I knew our PalmerSport guests would love to try it out.”
Therefore we’re pleased to give all guests on our event a taster of the revolutionary IONIQ 5 N for a few laps on the North circuit – the first time an electric car has been included on the programme. These laps will be in addition to the normal full driving time with the Ginetta G56.
Please note this is an untimed, additional activity at PalmerSport 2025 and crash helmets will not be worn.
